Dental Air Abrasion Technique Tooth Decay Treatment Dallas

Air Abrasion

Dental Specials in Dallas Air Abrasion is a technique of decay removal. It is used when the decay is small in size and deepth, and is accessible. Some people think of it as micro-etching.

How it works:  A fine powder is used. Blowing this powder under pressure through a very small tip, directed at the decay, will blow the decay out.  There is no heat thus most (99%) of patients have this done without anesthesia (shots).

Dental Air AbrasionFuture:  We feel that these restorations will last a long time.  The small size of the preparation and the use of a filling material that bonds to the tooth, are the reasons for the expectation of a long service life.

Changes:  There are rare occasions when during the removal of decay, it is discovered that the decay is more invasive than expected.  If this occurs the treatment plan might change to a more traditional technique, and if necessary anesthesia could be used.

The treatment of decay with as conservative a treatment technique as possible is always our goal. Decay is a progressive disease.  It is important to treat your decay before the natural progression reaches the point that this air abrasion technique is no longer an option.
